An honest comparison
"AI SDR" mostly means an agent that finds prospects, writes messages, and sends them — hundreds to thousands a month, often from vendor-provisioned domains warmed for the purpose. We automate a different half of the job. Facts as of August 2026.
The AI SDR pitch is leverage on volume: more contacts touched per dollar. The measured backdrop: average cold-email reply rates hit 0.45% across 7.5M sends in 2025 and are falling roughly 20% half-year over half-year (Belkins, 2026), while Google now enforces a 0.3% spam-complaint ceiling and Microsoft hard-rejects unauthenticated bulk mail at the server. Reporting and reviews across the category document the quality tax of automated personalization: invented funding rounds, fabricated mutual connections, outreach to people who left the company years ago. The AI writes confidently either way — that's the problem.
Small, targeted sends still work: under-50-recipient campaigns out-reply 1,000+-recipient blasts roughly three to one (Prospeo, 16.5M emails). The scarce thing isn't sends. It's a true reason to write to a specific person this week.
EarnedList spends the machine time before the send, not on it: researching each account individually, then forcing every claim through a mechanical verifier that re-fetches the cited page and string-matches the quote and the contact's name. What can't be verified doesn't ship — it becomes a disclosed gap. Then a human (you) sends at most ~20 a day, from your own mailbox, with drafts grounded only in evidence that survived. Your domain reputation stays yours; there is no rented identity to hand back when you leave.
| Typical AI SDR | EarnedList | |
|---|---|---|
| Unit of work | Contacts touched (hundreds–thousands/mo) | Accounts researched (~30, refreshed weekly) |
| Personalization | Generated at send time, unverified | Verified evidence first; drafts grounded in it |
| When facts are missing | The model fills the blank | A gap row says "no public name for this role" |
| Sending identity | Often vendor domains + warmup pools | Your own mailbox, capped ~20/day |
| Who approves a send | Optional review, often fully autonomous | You, always |
| Solo pricing | ~$99–250/mo entry; enterprise $5k+/mo | $129/mo flat |
Your economics genuinely work at fractions-of-a-percent reply rates, you need meetings booked with no human in the loop, and you're comfortable with automated messages going out under your name. Some funded teams make that trade knowingly. It's a real trade.
Your first thirty customers are worth more than your next three thousand impressions; your market remembers who wasted its time; and you'd rather send twenty messages you can stand behind than automate a thousand you can't. We publish our error rates on the method page — ask any AI SDR vendor for theirs.
